A notice is a formal communication that is used to give important information to a group of people. It is usually displayed in a public place so that it can be viewed, for example, on a notice board. The characteristics of a notice is that it is direct, clear, and brief because a notice is a piece of communication that should be understood immediately, and people should be able to read it quickly. The purpose of a notice is to inform, remind, announce, invite, and warn.
Checklist for a Notice
- Heading/ Title - Ensure that it is bold and reflects the purpose of the notice.
- Date - Include the date when the notice was written or posted.
- Audience - Ensure that the tone of your message fits your audience.
- Body of the notice - State what is happening, the date, time and location of the event or issue, why it is important and include any deadlines, requirements or instructions.
- Tone & Style - Use a formal, polite tone and keep the language clear and simple, avoiding unnecessary details or emotional language.
- Contact Information - Provide name, office, phone number or email, if it is necessary.
- Issuer’s Details - Include the name of the person or organization that is issuing the notice.
